Video Marketing for Schools and Universities: What to Shoot Before Admission Season
Parents choose with limited information
Choosing a school or university is a big decision, and many families build a shortlist long before they visit anywhere. They look at your website, your social pages and any videos they can find. If they cannot get a real feel for the place from those, they move on to one where they can.
That is why video matters so much for education. A good film does what a brochure cannot: it lets someone see the campus, the classrooms and the everyday life without travelling.
What families actually want to see
Think about what a parent would ask on a visit, and film the answers.
The campus. Classrooms, labs, libraries, play areas and common spaces, shown as they really are.
Everyday life. A normal day, not just the showpiece moments. How students move through it.
The learning approach. How subjects are actually taught. Short films on individual activities such as art, music, dance or hands-on learning show this better than any description.
The facilities. Show them clearly and in good light. Parents look closely at safety and cleanliness.
The people. Teachers explaining how they work, and, with consent, students and parents in their own words.
One main film, then many small ones
The most effective setup is simple.
One flagship tour film. A walkthrough that takes a parent through the campus from the gate to the classrooms, labs and play areas. It is the film you place on your website, your admissions page and your pinned social posts.
A series of short films. One per subject, activity or facility. Each can stand alone, and together they give a fuller picture than one long video. We produced a walkthrough of this kind for a school, and then separate films on individual activities, so a parent interested in a particular subject can go straight to it.
Short cutdowns for social media. Reels and shorts taken from the same footage keep your pages active through the admission period without extra shoots.
Plan for the admission calendar
Admission season has a fixed date, so work backwards from it. Plan and shoot the main film well before enquiries open, so it is live when families are searching. Cutdowns can be released across the season.
Filming children: get this right
Filming students needs care. Get written parental consent, follow your school's own policy, and only publish footage once you are sure everyone shown is covered. A good production team will ask about this before the shoot, not after.
Give every video a next step
A film that families enjoy but cannot act on does not turn into admissions. Every video and every page that hosts one should show one clear next step: an enquiry form, a WhatsApp number or an open day booking. We wrote about this gap in why Instagram gets views but no enquiries.
What to avoid
Stock footage that could be any school. Overly staged shots that do not look like your real campus. Videos with no clear message. A film that is posted once and never used again.
Getting started
If you want to see the kind of work we produce, browse our production work. If you already have footage from events or classrooms, we can edit it into finished videos. For a full shoot, tell us what you want to show and we will scope it.
