Freelance Video Editor vs Agency in India: How to Choose
Editing is more than cutting
People often say "I just need my videos edited" as if it were one task. A finished reel that is ready to post usually needs several things done well:
Cutting and pacing. Removing dead air, tightening the story, and making sure the first few seconds give a viewer a reason to stay.
Sound. Clean voice audio, music at the right level, no sudden jumps in volume.
Colour. Footage that looks consistent from one clip to the next, instead of changing with the lighting each day.
Captions. Accurate, readable text on screen, which also helps people watching without sound.
Export. The right format and shape for the platform, so you can publish without reworking anything.
A very cheap edit often covers only the first item. That is cutting, not editing, and you end up doing the rest yourself.
Your four options
None of these is always the best choice. It depends on how much you post and how much you want to manage.
Edit it yourself. It costs no money, but it costs a lot of time. It works while you post occasionally. It tends to break down once you need to publish every week, because editing is slow and always competes with the work that actually runs your business.
Hire a freelance editor. Freelancers are flexible, and for a single video or a short project they can be a sensible, affordable choice. The risks are availability, since one person is your only capacity, and consistency, since your style depends on that one person. Most freelancers edit what you send. They do not plan your content.
Hire an in-house editor. You get control and someone who learns your brand deeply. You also take on a fixed monthly cost and rely on one person's skills. This makes sense once you have enough steady volume to keep them busy.
Use an agency or studio. It usually costs more per video than a freelancer, but you get a team, a consistent style, cover when someone is unavailable, and often strategy and shooting under the same roof. It makes the most sense when you post regularly and want one dependable arrangement instead of managing several people.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
Whichever route you choose, these questions separate a good fit from a risky one:
Can I see finished, published videos similar to mine? A highlight reel is not enough. Ask for full videos that went live.
What exactly is included? Captions, colour, sound and music should be named, not assumed.
How many videos a month, and what if my volume changes? Know in advance what happens if you need more or fewer.
Who will I deal with, and what happens if they are unavailable? This matters most with a single freelancer.
What do you need from me? Raw files, a rough script, references, logo and fonts. A clear list saves everyone time.
How do revisions work? Policies differ a lot, so ask before you start, not after.
Is there a lock-in contract? Month-to-month arrangements let you leave if it is not working.
What to send an editor
A good brief saves more rounds of changes than any other single thing. Send:
- the raw footage
- a rough idea or script, even a few lines
- one or two reference videos you like
- your logo, colours and fonts
- the platform and the length you are aiming for
What we offer
If you already shoot your own videos or have footage sitting on a drive, we can edit it for you. There are two options, priced separately so you only pay for what you need.
Editing only: ₹2,000 per edited reel. You decide what to make and send us the raw footage. We turn it into finished reels with colour, sound, pacing and captions, delivered as ready-to-publish exports. No strategy is included.
Editing with strategy: ₹45,000 a month. Our Strategy & Editing plan is 15 edited reels a month, about ₹3,000 each, plus a monthly content strategy check-in. It is billed monthly with no lock-in contracts.
Both are the same published price for everyone. You can see exactly what is included and send us your footage here.
